Just before sunrise, families, friends, and supporters gathered at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport on Thursday, February 16th for the kick-off of Bert’s Big Adventure! What made this day so special was that Bert and Stacey Weiss, founders of  Bert’s Big Adventure, were celebrating 10 years of making magical moments in local Georgia residents lives.

Bert’s Big Adventure is a non-profit organization, designed to allow children, 5 to 12 years, with a chronic or terminal illness to experience a weekend with their families at Walt Disney World. Participants must show financial need and have never visited Walt Disney World. My twin brother, Joshua Manning Marable and I attended the magical kick-off event and had the chance to meet the 2012 Bert’s Big Adventure children:

Bree B.                   Age 5       Newnan

Brianna E.           Age 6       Douglasville

Elizabeth O.       Age 5        Thomaston

Gabe A.                  Age 11      Woodstock

Hunter W.            Age 12      Gainesville

Jainah R.               Age 8       Morrow

Jordan S.               Age 5       Canton

Linda C.                 Age 11      Kennesaw

Marie S.                 Age 5         Atlanta

Megan M.             Age 10      Dalton

Noah M.                Age 5         Flowery Branch

When Bert’s Big Adventure children opened the doors to the event space at the Sheraton, they were greeted with a red VIP carpet, and their names etched in the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. It  room suitable for kings and queens. Children enjoyed Nintendo Wii entertainment, hairstyling, jewelry making, inflatable bounce houses, and other festivities, planned by Posh Tot Events.
